Friends of Newcomer Training Session

Friends of Newcomer Training Sessions will take place on Tuesday, June 14th 2:00-4:30pm  and Thursday, June 16th  5:30-8pm.

The sessions are for anyone interested in being a “Friend to a Newcomer” to the Government Assisted Refugees through Wesley Urban Ministries.

Come and learn About:

  • Cultural Sensitivity and Newcomers
  • How to support your “newcomer friend” with grief and loss
  • When to refer back to Intensive Case Manager at Wesley
  • Do’s and Don’ts to being a “Friend to Newcomer”

If your refugee family will not be coming until next year this is a great way to gain some experience and be matched with a Government Assisted Refugee (GAR) through Wesley.  This session is also for anyone privately sponsoring and would like further training with supporting their family. Abir from the YMCA will be doing the Cultural Sensitivity training and  Scott Page, Chaplain for Wesley Urban Ministries will speak about how to support your Newcomer Friend with their grief and loss.
